Poppy Field en plein air

Another impulsive lunch break  pit stop to paint at Barford Lane, Downton, near my home.

I kept it simple with blocks of tonal greens onto the background and the simple shapes of the buildings. I added the sweep of the mid-ground and a splash of pure Cadmium red for the poppies, moving towards Crimson in the shadow and Orange in the highlights.

It’s often good to be short of time as there is now way you can fiddle and decisions have to be instinctive –trust yourself and have go!!!
