My ‘View from the Alhambra panting is finished! View it below in stages.

I knew what I liked about this view before I started. It was the pattern of the trees and the houses leading the eye through, and of course it is such a magical place to paint.

I’m fully engaged with mark making and seeing the overall Abstract patterns in these paintings. In this respect  this painting is painted very much like ‘Plein air’ piece, making simple, measured, relevant marks and enjoying the detail sometimes but always seeing how each mark fits into the overall scheme of the painting. I am fully engaged with my own way of seeing and this makes this series of paintings from Spain really important point for me.

  1. Angela, That is a lovely painting. 🙂

    1. Thank you Diane.

  2. Just magical Angela. I can sense the heat and almost smell the herbs!

A scene like this could be quite daunting as there’s so much detail, but I can see how it’s possible to apply what we’ve been learning in class and not get too overwhelmed by it all. In theory anyway!

    1. I’ve tried to simplify it into shapes and patterns so that it is not too busy.
Thank you for your kind words. Yes, we have worked like this in class and yes you can do it too!.

  3. I love this painting, Angela. You’ve really caught the light and the feeling of space from up there on the Alhambra hill.

    1. Thanks Pam. it was such a magical place it really got under my skin and it is so lovely to be able to put this feeling into paint.
